October 3

Exhibition: This week the students will be given their topic (look for the permission slip to coming home today).  We will be developing our Central Idea under How We Express Ourselves, develop our lines of inquiry, and review researching skills in order to get started!  

Math: We will have a quiz on Wednesday on multiplying and dividing of whole numbers
Beginning on Thursday: Multiplication of decimals and whole numbers(We will be going back to the orange Go Math books lessons 3.1 and 3.2)
Multiplication/division skills with problem solving
à If your child does not have their multiplication facts memorized please help them memorize them. All the concepts we learn become a lot more difficult if they do not have them memorized and can recall them quickly.

We will be learning about the important leaders of the colonial period. There will be a very small quiz on the 13 colonies on Friday. This quiz will come straight from your child’s newspaper. Please review the newspaper with them before the quiz.

Math: This week we are finishing up equations, expressions, factors, and divisibility.  We will have a TEST ON TUESDAY. Your child has notes in their math journals to review as well as any of the videos I have posted on my blog.
Wednesday- we will begin financial literacy which includes different types of taxes such as income, payroll, sales, and property

Reading: This week we are beginning our first Book Clubs.  The students will be assigned a book to read with their groups and required to keep up with their 'bookmarks' that focus on specific skills.  This bookmark will focus on developing questions and summarizing the text. On Monday I will post the book clubs and their reading schedules (your child should also have it on their bookmark).

ELA: We will start types of sentences.


Science: Properties of matter: density, electrical conductivity, magnetism, and solubility.

Math: This week we are order of operations and simplifying expressions and solving equations.   Your child will have math notes in their math journals to review. Science: We are beginning our unit on Matter and its properties.  We will focus on what matter is, what it isn't, the main states of matter, and changes in states of matter.  Here are some great videos to review for Matter.  

Study Jams Science You will see scrolling topics under science.  Find the one on Matter.  The three videos I suggest are: Properties of MatterSolids Liquids Gases, and Physical and Chemical Changes in Matter.

Social Studies:
 We are continuing our unit on Early Explorers leading into English settlements as well as covering essential map skills, which despite technological advances, really come in good use!! We also have been working on our Class Social Studies Journal by using our note taking skills and converting them into a summary.
