April 23-April 27


·                        Exhibition: Please make sure your child has all the supplies they need to work on/complete their projects at school. The week of April 23-27, we will be working every day on these projects. The students will be creating a piece to use to present their information, as well as piece to express themselves through art.

·                     Science STAAR – May 16th
·                     Food Bank Field Trip – May 18th
·                     Exhibition Night- May 24th at 6:30 – 7:45 PM
·                     NO SCHOOL- May 28th
·                     5th grade Promotion – May 29th at 6 PM
·                     June 1st – Last day of school and CARNIVAL


Math: We continuing to learn about percentages and how to convert a decimal or fraction to a percent. Test Thursday. Here is a video that helps explain the concept: Percents: Math Antics 

Reading: Spelling Test and Quizlet Quizlet

Science: Life Science test Monday. This week we will begin our review for the SCIENCE STAAR. The students will be receiving feedback cards that reflect what objectives they need to work on. Additionally, they may bring home their science journals or science fusion textbooks to review. Studyjams, crashcoursekids (youtube), and brainpop all have wonderful videos that your child can access and watch at home.  

Social Studies: This week we are covering social, economic, and political issues that occurred in the beginning of the 20th century, including Women's rights, the Suffrage movement, and labor laws.

April 16- April 20

  • ·         Exhibition: Students are back to work on Exhibition! This week they will be choosing their projects, and on Thursday a letter will go home to let parents know what project they are doing and what materials they will need.
  • ·         Progress Reports go home on Tuesday


Math: We are learning about percentages and how to convert a decimal or fraction to a percent. Here is a video that helps explain the concept: Percents: Math Antics

Reading: Spelling Test and Quizlet à Next week we will start our FINAL book club of fifth grade. This will be an independent book project.  Quizlet

Science: This week we are focusing on life cycles of plants and animals. We will also learn about complete/incomplete metamorphosis. There are some great videos for review: Study Jams  Under the Plant tab: Roots & Stems, Flowers, Plants with Seeds.  Under the Animals tab: Animal Life Cycles

Biology test will be coming up shortly. We will talk as a class as to the date for the assessment.

Social Studies: This week we are focusing on the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad and how that impacted the U.S economically and in other ways.

Important announcements:
·         Math STAAR April 10th (check out prior posts to review)
·          Reading STAAR April 11th (check out prior posts to review)
·         Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and a big breakfast those days! Please have them bring a NOT MESSY and nutritious snack. If you have any questions, please let me know.
·          Friday, we have our field trip to the food bank. If you would like to donate a can, you may bring one. Remember to wear close-toed shoes so your feet are protected. Please wear your red Roberts shirt or your fifth grade shirt.
·         Please try to sign up for your yearbook! Your child gets two free pages to customize. If you do not wish to customize your pages, you will still need to sign up. The yearbook is free for every student. (It was already bought through the fifth grade package) (check out prior posts to review)
